Paul Kissaun

British pianist and vocalist Paul Kissaun mixes melodic pop and rock with jazz in a way that combines soul blues vocal stylings with a subtle undercurrent of wry disappointment often found in folkier artists like Joni Mitchell. In that vein Kissaun will just as often cover a modern pop song as an old jazz standard, and his original compositions elegantly move between heartfelt balladry to  personal commentary with a touch of irony.

He began his professional life as an actor musician in the mid eighties before attracting the attention of Hereward K who, in 1989, asked him to join acapella chart toppers The Flying Pickets. During this time he shared the bill with a fair chunk of his musical heroes including Ray Charles, Nina Simone and Joan Baez. He continued with the band arranging and recording the Vox Pop album combining this with a career in musicals.  He left the band in 2000 in order to write for children's TV and theatre including the theme for CITV's Jim Jam and Sunny.  In 2011 he released his first solo album ‘Rude Gospel’ which confronted many of his experiences up to that point
